Your Body is Talking. Are You Listening?

Can you hear what your body says to you? Do you know how to interpret the messages that it gives you? Do you listen to them and take them seriously?
Renowned psychologist Norman Brown says, "What is always speaking silently is the body."
Your body is a superhighway of complex communication and information.
Right now, in this very moment your body is rejuvenating, healing and detoxifying. Old cells are being removed and new ones are growing and replacing them.
Your body loving and patiently gives you messages about what it needs. The messages come softly and gently at first. But, if the messages are ignored, then the signs will get louder and the symptoms more obvious, until eventually you cannot avoid them any longer.
I know this because in July 1997, I suffered from my own personal health crisis.
My body collapsed leaving me bed-ridden for months.
When my body collapsed, leaving me bed-ridden for weeks, I learnt the hard way. I was forced to pay attention.
Being spoon-fed by my own Mother, I realized how much I had been over-riding my body and ignoring it’s cries for less stress, shorter to-do lists, and more fun, rest, pleasure, boundaries and fun.
I was the sort of person who said ‘yes’ to everyone. I was first up in the morning and often last to bed. I didn't know how to express my emotions or upset feelings and typically bottled things up.
Looking back, I know why I did these things:
I was trying to fit in, to ‘do the right thing’ and ‘be the good girl.’
But, what I didn’t understand was that I was doing this, at the expense of my own health and happiness. And, in the process, I totally forgot that I had a body. Nor did I realise that my body had its own needs!
Instead, I lived from my head and shoulders up, trying to please everyone around me.
To cope with my ever-growing lack of energy and tiredness, I ended up trying to boost my energy levels with stimulants - fake foods, coffee, sugar and alcohol.
Maybe you have found yourself doing some of these things too?
Your body always knows best.
If you have been over-riding your body, now is the perfect time to start listening to it.
When you tune into your own body wisdom, you can start to make new choices for yourself.
Let your choices bring you the happiness, joy and health that you are truly seeking.
Here are 4 classic signs that you are not listening to your innate body wisdom…
1. You suffer from a lack of energy.
When you are struggling to wake up in the morning or to get through the afternoon, without reaching for sugar or chocolate, then you are suffering from a lack of energy.
Ask yourself the following questions, “What are my true priorities in my life?" and "What is one small baby step I could take in my life to help me achieve this and live my life more closely aligned with the things that matter the most to me?”
2. You have difficulty losing weight or gaining it.
Whether you have trouble putting on or getting rid of weight, it is a sure sign that you are living out of balance with your body’s natural rhythm and yourself. Your body always tells your emotional truth.
Focus your energy on addressing the root cause of any emotional stress in your life, and watch your weight start to release naturally.
3. You experience food cravings and addictions.
When you crave fake foods, it is an indication that you are not getting what you need somewhere in your life: physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually.
Your body does not recognise fake foods, nor can it properly digest or assimilate them, so why would it crave them? One possible reason is that it is addicted to them. In true health, your body will crave whole, real foods. These types of food grow abundantly in nature and if not consumed will decompose.
Wherever possible, avoid man-made, laboratory foods by increasing your consumption of real foods such as vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, pulses and fresh herbs.
4. Your body is struggling with illness or 'dis-ease'.
When illness and disease show up in your life, use this as an invitation to nourish yourself with love and kindness. Use illness as an early warning sign to look within and make some new and different lifestyle choices for yourself.
Ask yourself these two questions, “What is my body guiding me to do?” and “What is my body guiding me to stop doing?”
If you tune within, you will discover what and when you are feeling off. Let this be a green light to start making new choices for yourself, and protect yourself from more serious health concerns, later in life.
Listen to your body.
When you tune into your own body cycles and inner wisdom, you will be able to hear your body communicating with you. When you do this, it becomes much easier to live in alignment with your body, your heart and your truth.
You will know what to eat, as well as when to eat. You will be able to follow your passions and feel drawn toward people who can fuel your dreams. You will intuitively know what kind of work will satisfy your spirit and your heart.
When you listen to your body and it’s messages, everything in your life will begin to flow: you will naturally feel happier, healthier and more energized.
Let the intuitive voice of your body and the gentle whispers of your heart take you on the journey of health and happiness!
