What Your Digestion Is Really Trying to Tell You

What Your Digestion Is Really Trying to Tell You

Jun 30, 2026

For years, I thought I had digestive problems.

Back when I was working in my corporate marketing job, I was constantly daydreaming about throwing it all in and going to art school. Around that time, I started feeling sick to my stomach.

There was a knot that seemed to live there.

Most weeks it appeared on Sunday afternoon, tightened through the evening, and by Monday morning it was impossible to ignore.

Eventually, I began to notice a pattern.

The truth?

Whenever I thought about leaving my job, I felt terrified.

I worried about money. I worried about what other people might think. I worried I was being irresponsible, naïve, foolish.

Looking back, I can see it wasn't a knot in my stomach.

It was a knot of dread.

My emotional eating and cravings intensified around this time too. I could feel that fear in my stomach. In my chest. Every day.

But my body wasn't broken.

It was working exactly as it was designed to.

It was communicating clearly, consistently and with incredible precision, speaking a truth that I already sensed but wasn't yet ready to face.

And when I finally built up the courage to leave that job, I was amazed when my stomach issues simply disappeared. Not gradually. Almost immediately.

That experience taught me something I've never forgotten.

Your body is always communicating.

Mine was simply trying to get my attention.

Whenever I work with women, I've noticed something fascinating. Digestive problems tend to show up alongside stress.

Difficult relationships. People pleasing. Grief. Burnout. Blocked creativity. Unfulfilled dreams. Not being true to yourself. Or living a life that no longer feels like your own.

Which makes me curious...

What has your body been trying to tell you lately?

Real healing begins when we look at the whole picture. This means paying attention to our body, mind, emotions, relationships and the life we're living.

In my experience, the women I work with who are struggling with their digestion are almost always also struggling with something else.

Something they've been trying to process. Something they've been suppressing. Something that sits quietly inside them, just beneath the surface of their daily life.

Most of us think digestion is only about food.

The truth is that we're digesting life all day long.

We're digesting conversations, experiences, stress, grief, change, disappointment, joy, uncertainty, relationships and emotions.

And our bodies let us know when we're carrying more than we can comfortably process.

Our symptoms aren't here to punish us. They're invitations to slow down, pay attention and begin listening more deeply to ourselves.

Whenever we feel digestive symptoms, it can be helpful to ask questions such as...

What else is going on in my life at the moment? Is there something that's been difficult to digest? Is there something that's causing me stress? What is my body trying to get me to pay attention to?

It's always honest with you, gently guiding you towards your gifts, your passions and your purpose. Every emotion you've pushed down, every truth you haven't spoken, every time you've put your own needs last... your body has felt it all.

Today, when my body feels out of balance, I never ask, "What's wrong with me?"

Instead, I ask:

What do I need?

More sleep? A quiet walk? A healthy meal? A difficult conversation I've been putting off? A few slow deep breaths? A moment to come back to myself?

For me, the answer is always the same... Come back to my body.

Sometimes I simply say,

"Hello body... I'm here."

Let's take a moment and practice it together.

Place both hands on your heart and breathe in.

Then say...

"Hello body... I'm here and I'm listening to you."

Then sit quietly for a moment. Breathe in and breathe out. Notice whatever arises.
You don't need to have everything figured out. Healing happens through small, courageous baby steps.

Every healing journey begins when we practice saying yes to ourselves.

If something in this conversation has stirred something in you... a question, a quiet
knowing, or an intuitive connection... I want you to know that feeling is worth paying attention to.
